A man from Iași has been sent to trial for fraud after he tricked a victim into paying him nearly 100,000 euros, claiming that he could communicate with an esoteric entity named 'Bau'. Between 2020 and 2024, the victim was manipulated into paying considerable sums to 'cast out demons' from his family members, starting with his father, followed by his wife and child.

The scammer claimed that 'Bau' predicted the father's illness, demanding 180,862 lei, then asserted that the wife was possessed, asking for 165,382 lei. The manipulation continued with threats related to the son's health, for which the victim paid 49,189 lei, and with a final threat regarding his own death, for which he paid 47,400 lei. The investigation uncovered the fraud scheme, and the defendant is accused of ongoing fraud, with total damages exceeding 90,000 euros. The case is now before the Iași Court.
