Sânmartin, a commune in Bihor, has managed to reverse the trend of migration from rural areas to cities, becoming a rare example in Romania. This was made possible due to significant investments in education and infrastructure, which have improved local standards. More and more parents from Oradea are choosing to enroll their children in schools in Sânmartin, due to the superior learning conditions, including modern facilities such as smart boards and digital resources. In the last three years, the commune has received over 250 enrollment requests from parents outside the locality.
Investments of approximately four million euros have led to an increase in the population from 9,000 to 15,000 residents. Mayor Cristian Laza mentioned the rehabilitation of 11 educational structures and the construction of a new school and kindergarten, thus responding to demographic pressures. The performance of students in Sânmartin is consistent, and the community continues to develop rapidly, attracting families who wish to give up urban life.
