In the 5th round of the Super Chess Classic Romania 2026, all five games ended in a draw, and Vincent Keymer continues to lead the standings. An unusual moment was the participation of Alireza Firouzja, who played from bed due to a medical incident. The symbolic first move was made by Elisabeta Lipă, accompanied by a delegation of Olympic champions.

The game between Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Jorden van Foreest was balanced, while Bogdan Deac and Fabiano Caruana had an interesting opening but got stuck in the end. Praggnanandhaa had a contested game with Wesley So, but a rook sacrifice led to a draw. Anish Giri and Vincent Keymer played a solid variation, and Firouzja had a tense game with Sindarov, which also ended in a draw. With four rounds remaining, the competition remains open, and the 6th round will start on May 20, 2026. Access to the tournament is free, and additional details can be found on the official websites of the Romanian Chess Federation.
