The National Authority for Energy Regulation (ANRE) is preparing a system through which Romanians will receive real-time notifications on their phones when electricity consumption approaches 80% of the limit set in the contract.
George Niculescu, the representative of ANRE, announced that suppliers will be required to send alerts via SMS, email, or mobile applications, helping consumers avoid high bills. The system will send notifications upon reaching the critical consumption threshold, giving users time to adjust their energy behavior. Implementation depends on the expansion of smart meters, of which Romania has only 35%. The president of ANRE emphasized their importance for optimizing consumption and differentiated hourly pricing.
