Students from Bucharest, Timișoara, and Ploiești won medals at the International Economics Olympiad. Romania obtained 21 distinctions in eight participations.

At the International Economics Olympiad, Romania won medals through students Radu Nedea (International British School of Bucharest), Robert Bercea (British International School of Timișoara) and Iustin Alexandru Gheorghe (National College 'Mihai Viteazul' Ploiești).

The national team, led by professor Cristian Gheorghe from the RECE Center of Excellence in Economics, also included other members, such as Giorgio Filippo Sforza and Iris Voinea. With these results, Romania's tally reaches 21 distinctions in eight participations, including four silver medals and 15 bronze. The IEO, supported by Nobel Prize laureate Eric Maskin, tests students' skills in economics and finance.

The national preparation involved over 500 students from 23 counties, and those selected benefited from an intensive program at the EY headquarters. In 2026, Bucharest will host the first global edition of the International Business and Finance Olympiad, organized by RECE, with the participation of 40 students from eight countries. RECE offers free training in economics and coordinates Romania's participation in international competitions.
