Bogdan Ivan, the Minister of Energy, stated that Romania will not face abrupt increases in natural gas prices after the expiration of the price cap scheme on April 1, 2026. He mentioned that, currently, there are offers on the market below the capped price, of 0.31 lei/kWh for residential customers and 0.37 lei/kWh for non-residential customers. Ivan emphasized that, in the most pessimistic scenario, there could be a one-year extension with a gradual reduction of the cap, to protect consumers from sudden increases. He also explained that, although gas consumption increases in the cold season, prices are stabilized until the end of March. Ivan assured that Romania is prepared to avoid a shock similar to that of electricity, maintaining transparency in the market.
