Romania has sent a shipment of humanitarian aid to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in response to the request of Venezuelan authorities following the earthquakes on June 24, 2026.
The mission, carried out with a C-17 Globemaster III military aircraft, took off on July 2 from the 90th Air Transport Base in Otopeni, carrying supplies and medical products intended for the Yaracuy region, which was severely affected by the earthquakes.
The intervention is part of the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism, activated by the European Commission to coordinate international aid. Romania's participation was approved by Decision no. 11 of June 29, 2026.
The transport is carried out under the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) program, a multinational initiative that allows participating states to use aircraft for humanitarian missions and emergency response.
