Alexandru Nazare announced that Romania recorded a budget surplus of 0.85 billion lei in January 2026, marking the first month with a surplus since 2019. Compared to January 2025, when the deficit was 11 billion lei, this result reflects better management of public finances.
Total revenues increased by 17.9%, reaching 55.12 billion lei, mainly due to record collections from VAT, which rose by 23.9%. Expenditures decreased by 6%, without affecting investments, which are supported by European funds. Nazare emphasizes the importance of financial stability and fiscal prudence for attracting international capital, promising that the budget for 2026 will continue to support public investments in infrastructure and strategic development.
