Nicușor Dan stated that Romania could meet the necessary conditions for joining the eurozone in the next 3-4 years, highlighting the economic benefits of integration into the eurozone, such as increased productivity and well-paid jobs. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan mentioned that, currently, Romania does not meet these conditions due to the high budget deficit, with a goal of reducing the deficit to 3% by 2030.
Additionally, Bulgaria is set to adopt the euro in 2026, while Romania faces obstacles such as a large budget deficit and a lack of political consensus. Polls show that 59% of Romanians support adopting the euro, but stabilizing public finances remains a major challenge. Analysts estimate that it will take several years for Romania to stabilize its finances and have a realistic prospect of joining.
