Romania intends to collaborate with Ukraine to produce drones through the EU defense funding mechanism, SAFE

Romania will cooperate with Ukraine for the production of drones within the EU's SAFE rearmament initiative, having 16.6 billion euros available for military acquisitions. The project aims to develop interceptor drones and long-range drones, in the context where Romania is facing security challenges, including violations of its airspace by Russia. A source from the Ministry of Defense emphasized that, until the implementation of a multi-layered air defense system, Romania will have an expensive asymmetric defense.
