Road workers are installing additional signs on motorways in western Romania, particularly on the A1 and A11, to prevent drivers from entering the wrong carriageway and traveling against the direction of traffic. The measure is being implemented around interchanges and service areas, where confusion may arise when entering or exiting the motorway.

The new yellow-backed signs accompany the “No Entry” sign and display the message “STOP – NO ENTRY.” According to the Timișoara Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges, their purpose is to draw attention to the fact that a section of road where traffic in that direction is not permitted lies ahead.

The installation of additional signs has been underway for several years and continues in areas where it is considered necessary. The decision comes amid an increasing number of situations in which drivers turn around on the motorway or end up traveling against the direction of traffic—maneuvers that can cause serious accidents.

Traveling against the direction of traffic on a motorway is punishable under the Road Traffic Code by a Class IV fine of up to 4,325 lei and a 120-day driving license suspension. Paying attention to road signs and following the rules at interchanges are essential to preventing such incidents.
