Registrations of pure electric cars recorded an impressive increase of +152% in March 2026 compared to the same month last year, reaching 679 units, according to the Association of Automobile Producers and Importers (APIA). Additionally, plug-in hybrid cars increased by +49%, reaching 750 units. These increases come against the backdrop of a general decline in the auto market in Romania, which recorded a decrease of -19% in the first three months of 2026 compared to the same period last year. APIA's analysis shows that registrations of new cars increased by +4.7% compared to March 2025, and electrified cars had a growth of +27%. Dacia remains the top choice for Romanians, with 1,856 units registered in March, followed by Skoda and Toyota. This trend suggests a shift in the preferences of Romanian consumers towards more environmentally friendly vehicles, despite the overall decline in the auto market.
