A heat dome is developing over Europe, causing a drastic change in the weather, with temperatures expected to exceed the normal for May by 16 degrees Celsius.

The phenomenon is caused by a high-pressure area originating from north-west Africa, which traps warm air close to the ground. In the south-west of Europe, especially in Spain and Portugal, temperatures will reach 35-39 degrees Celsius. The warm air will gradually extend north and east, with highs of 25-29 degrees Celsius in the United Kingdom and France. Excessive heat can affect health, especially for the elderly and people with chronic conditions. The heat dome may last for days or weeks, and meteorologists warn of the risks of heat exhaustion. The heatwave will peak over the weekend, with record temperatures expected in several European countries.
