The Environmental Guard imposed record fines for pollution in 2025, but the Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, emphasized that these sanctions are paid from the budgets of the municipalities, meaning from the money of the Romanians.
In a statement to B1TV, Buzoianu called for more active involvement of local authorities in complying with environmental legislation. Although she praised the Environmental Guard for the record number of fines, she highlighted that the responsibility for preventing pollution lies with the municipalities. Buzoianu announced that mobile laboratories for monitoring air quality will be active around the clock, and the sensor system will be modernized. She also mentioned that a significant part of the pollution in the Capital comes from construction sites that do not comply with protective measures, thus affecting air quality and the health of citizens.
