A ransomware cyber attack affected the IT infrastructure of the Oltenia Energy Complex, encrypting documents and making applications unavailable.

On the night of December 26, 2025, the Oltenia Energy Complex was the victim of a ransomware cyber attack, named 'Gentlemen', which compromised the company's business IT infrastructure. The attack led to the encryption of documents and files, and several software applications, including ERP systems, email services, and the company's website, became temporarily unavailable. The company's operations were partially affected, but the functioning of the National Energy System was not endangered.

After identifying the incident, the affected systems were isolated, and the situation was reported to the competent authorities, including the National Cyber Security Directorate. Management filed a criminal complaint with DIICOT for illegal access to a computer system and data alteration. The company's IT specialists began the process of rebuilding the systems on a new infrastructure, using existing backup copies. Currently, the extent of the incident and possible data exfiltration are being analyzed, and the Oltenia Energy Complex is collaborating with the authorities to restore the IT systems. This attack follows a similar incident that affected the National Administration Apele Române.
