Daniel Zamfir, PSD senator, announced the submission of a draft law that obliges credit institutions to compensate debtors affected by unfair competitive practices or calculation errors of interest rates, as determined by the competent authorities.

The project provides for a mediation mechanism that allows for the correction of errors and the restitution of damages. Zamfir emphasized that the initiative has no political color and invites all parliamentarians to support it. His arguments are based on the conclusions of a parliamentary committee from 2019, which found manipulation of the ROBOR index.

The project includes sanctions for banks that do not comply with the obligations to recalculate interest rates and refund amounts. Zamfir believes that banks should opt for an amicable solution, avoiding lengthy litigation. The project will be debated in Parliament, with the participation of representatives from the banking system and consumers.
