Greece has granted a 25-year storage permit for the Prinos CO₂ project, developed by EnEarth Greece, a subsidiary of Energean, which aims to store carbon dioxide in a depleted oil reservoir off the coast of Kavala. The project, the first of its kind in Southeast Europe and the eastern Mediterranean, involves injecting CO₂ approximately 3 km below the seabed and aims to reduce industrial emissions, with an initial capacity of 1 million tons per year, expected to later reach 2.8 million tons annually. The initiative is supported by European funding and is considered a strategic project for the development of carbon capture and storage infrastructure in the region.
