The former Prime Minister of Romania expressed his opinion regarding the closure of the television station Realitatea TV in a message on Facebook, posted on April 7, 2026. He warns that the joy over the closure of an unpleasant television station may lead to restrictions on other media platforms, including accounts and podcasts, thus affecting the right to criticize. Ponta mentions that, although he has often been criticized by Realitatea TV, he does not consider the closure to be a solution.
He describes the reason cited by the CNA for the closure, namely 'unpaid fines', as 'unserious' and suggests that it could be a political revenge. The former Prime Minister compares this action to practices in Russia or Moldova, emphasizing that it represents an undemocratic precedent that threatens freedom of expression in Romania.
