In a press conference, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan explained that Romania's budget deficit is alarming, with the country spending 132 lei for every 100 lei collected in taxes. Comparing the current situation with that of 2010, Bolojan underlined the urgent need to take fiscal measures to avoid default. Without immediate action, Romania risks losing access to European funds and credit deterioration, which would seriously affect investments and the payment of salaries and pensions.
