In the wake of alarming statistics on road accidents, the People's Advocate is proposing amendments to the Highway Code, including the reintroduction of practical tests, such as the polygraph test, abolished in the 2000s. Experts point out that driving schools train candidates only to get a license, not to drive safely. Other proposals include extending the psychological test to assess the emotional state of future drivers and introducing defensive driving courses. These proposals are being discussed for inclusion in a draft law.
