In the meeting of the leaders, the governing coalition decided that the partial local elections will take place on December 7, according to political sources cited by News.ro. These elections are particularly important, considering that the General Mayor of the Capital is the politician with the second highest number of votes in the Romanian electoral system, after the president.
The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, initially proposed holding the elections on November 30, but Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced that he would support their holding on the last Sunday of November or the first Sunday of December. Bolojan also mentioned that there is no problem in respecting the PSD's condition that each party in the coalition should have its own candidate.
