Michael O'Leary, the CEO of Ryanair, stated that in the next five years, airlines could offer free WiFi during flights, due to improvements in technology. At a press conference, O'Leary emphasized that passengers would only use the internet if it is free. Ryanair reported a net profit of 115 million euros in the last quarter of 2025, maintaining affordable ticket prices.
O'Leary expressed concerns about the additional costs associated with Starlink technology, developed by SpaceX, which could increase fuel consumption and, consequently, ticket prices. Although SpaceX disputes O'Leary's estimates, he mentioned that Ryanair would add WiFi on flights if the technology becomes more efficient. The company is also collaborating with Amazon and Vodafone for WiFi solutions. Despite the optimistic estimates of other providers, O'Leary believes that only 10% of passengers would pay for internet. His disputes with Elon Musk have generated a lot of publicity for Ryanair, attracting international attention.
