Unit 2 of the Cernavodă NPP will be shut down in a controlled manner due to the low flow of the Danube.

The Nuclearelectrica Company has announced that it will shut down the second reactor of the nuclear power plant in Cernavodă due to the low flow of the Danube.

The controlled shutdown of Reactor 2 will take place on the evening of July 29 or in the morning of July 30, 2026, depending on the evolution of the water level.

The Ministry of Energy has stated that the shutdown of Unit 2 will not affect the electricity supply to household consumers or economic operators. Authorities assert that the National Energy System has sufficient production resources and mechanisms to balance the grid, ensuring that consumption needs are met safely.

The shutdown of the second reactor comes just a day after the controlled disconnection of Unit 1. Nuclearelectrica and the Ministry of Energy are continuously monitoring the evolution of the Danube's level and will decide to resume the operation of the reactors when the operating conditions return to safe limits.
