The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, had a meeting with Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, at the Cotroceni Palace. During the discussions, Dan emphasized the strategic importance of transport and ensuring safe routes for goods, in the context of the war in Ukraine and the crisis in the Middle East.
He called for accessing additional European funds aimed at interconnectivity, highlighting the essential role of the Port of Constanța and transport corridors for goods flows and military mobility. The President mentioned the necessity of developing transport infrastructure in Romania, including the completion of highways A1, A7, and A8, which are vital for connecting with Central Europe, Ukraine, and the Republic of Moldova. Dan emphasized that the security of Romania and Europe depends on the expansion of transport corridors to these states, facilitating their integration into the European Single Market.
