President Nicușor Dan has scheduled discussions with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and Minister of Defense, Ionuț Moșteanu, regarding the United States' decision to withdraw hundreds of soldiers from Mihail Kogălniceanu base. This meeting comes after an exchange of information between the president and the Minister of Defense, following the official announcement from the USA. It is expected that the Presidential Administration will issue reactions on this subject, and a Supreme Council for National Defense (CSAT) will be organized in November to discuss the implications of this withdrawal.
The US decision is part of a broader process of reevaluating the global posture of American forces, and the Ministry of National Defense has confirmed that Romania will remain in constant contact with its American strategic partner. Although the number of soldiers will be reduced, approximately 1,000 American military personnel will remain in Romania, and strategic capabilities, including the missile defense system, will remain operational. Additionally, Mihail Kogălniceanu base will continue to be developed, maintaining the American presence in the area.
