Journalist Diana Oncioiu, known for her investigations into sexual abuse within the Huși Diocese, is critical of President Nicușor Dan, arguing that he made erroneous statements regarding the case of former bishop Cornel Onilă. She contests the interpretation of some video evidence and asserts that these cannot be considered proof of consensual acts, as suggested by the president.

Oncioiu invokes rulings and passages from the court's reasoning, according to which the acts for which the former bishop was definitively sentenced to 8 years in prison involved sexual abuse and coercion, including against minors. In the public space, the dispute has generated strong reactions and new questions regarding how the evidence in the case was managed.

At the same time, journalist Vlad Stoicescu, who is among the authors of the investigative series "The Secrets of the Cells" about the former archbishop of Huși, published on Friday on Facebook a timeline of the criminal cases in which Corneliu Onilă was involved, contradicting the statements made by President Nicușor Dan. The journalist shows that, in the case file through which the individuals who blackmailed Onilă were sent to trial, the prosecutor only used old footage and kept new photo-video evidence, indicative of possible systematic sexual offenses, in a drawer, according to HotNews.

We remind that Nicușor Dan said on Thursday evening at Europa FM that "he has great confidence" in Cristina Chiriac, appointed to lead the General Prosecutor's Office, and defended her against accusations that she kept evidence in the Onilă case in a drawer.

"There were two cases, one at the DNA for blackmail, the one for abuse at the General Prosecutor's Office. In the DNA case, there were no minors, there were no abuses. It was a blackmail with some films because there was no abuse, but a consensual act in which there were no minors. In the case from the Iași Court of Appeal, there were other testimonies and evidence that led to a conviction for assault against minors," declared the President of Romania.
