President Nicușor Dan congratulated director Cristian Mungiu for winning the second Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival with the film 'Fjord', describing the achievement as 'an extraordinary performance'. In a message on Facebook, Dan highlighted the contribution of the film's team, including Sebastian Stan, the lead actor. He praised Mungiu's films for their ability to explore conflicts between values, considering that this is the essence of art.

Nicușor Dan emphasized that the success at Cannes marks the recognition of the new wave of Romanian cinema, mentioning directors such as Cristi Puiu and Corneliu Porumboiu, who had the courage to tackle themes relevant to a changing society. In conclusion, he stated that contemporary Romanian film represents an 'excellent business card for Romania' and stressed the need for the administration to support national cinema more. Cristian Mungiu won the Palme d'Or for the first time in 2007 with the film '4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days', addressing themes related to Romanian communism.
