The Italian startup Newcleo, together with the European Eagles Consortium, has signed a collaboration agreement for the construction of the Leandrea nuclear reactor, a prototype that will be developed by 2034 at the SCK CEN research institute in Belgium.
The agreement was made during the 'Taking the Lead' conference in Brussels, aimed at strengthening synergies in the field of lead-cooled fast reactor technologies in Europe. The project will include the construction of a technological demonstrator in Belgium, followed by the development of a performance demonstrator in Romania, which will facilitate the commercialization of the Eagles-300 reactor by 2039. Newcleo will contribute with technical support and promotional activities, and the officials involved emphasize the importance of this project for the competitiveness of the European nuclear industry and for the European Union's leadership position in the field of nuclear energy.
