Nelu Iordache, known as 'The King of Asphalt', was released from prison on Friday after the Bucharest Court of Appeal accepted his appeal for annulment, reducing his sentence in the case of fraud with European funds intended for the construction of the Nădlac-Arad highway. The sentence was reduced from 11 years and 9 months to 5 years and 10 months. Iordache was convicted on September 8, 2021, for multiple offenses and also received a 6-year sentence in the Transalpina case.
After spending 4 years and 130 days in prison, he also escaped a 12-year and 6-month sentence in the case of embezzlement of the company Blue Air, due to the statute of limitations on the facts. He was also acquitted of another tax evasion case related to fictitious purchases of construction materials.
