The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, sent a message after the NATO Summit in Ankara, emphasizing the importance of respecting the commitments made by allied states in the field of defense. The head of state highlighted that the declaration adopted at the end of the meeting represents proof of the solidarity and capability of the Alliance to respond to security challenges. He mentioned that an equitable distribution of responsibilities will strengthen the transatlantic link in the long term and reaffirmed Romania's support for Ukraine in the face of hybrid threats.

“Upon leaving the successful NATO Summit in Ankara, I want to emphasize that Romania is among the NATO allies that have firmly assumed their responsibilities regarding the burden-sharing among member states. The fact that Romania has quickly and decisively implemented the defense commitment agreed upon by allies in The Hague highlights the essential role our country plays on NATO's Eastern Flank,” said President Dan.

The President also announced that Romania has joined the initiative coordinated by the United Kingdom for the development of long-range precision strike capabilities, alongside other allied states, in order to strengthen this essential component of NATO's defense.

“This represents a clear contribution to strengthening credible deterrence, by preventing aggression and protecting our citizens and critical infrastructure. As Europe takes on an increasing responsibility for our common transatlantic security, Romania will continue to contribute to a stronger Europe in a stronger NATO,” added Nicușor Dan.

In the final declaration of the summit, NATO leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the collective defense clause in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, underscoring the unity and solidarity of the Alliance in the face of global challenges.
