On Wednesday, NATO allies held a closed-door meeting to discuss a proposal for the accelerated purchase of drones, in response to the crash of a Russian drone in Galați, which injured two people. The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, emphasized the importance of strengthening NATO's presence in Romania, considering the risks posed by Russia's war against Ukraine. During the discussions, it was agreed to accelerate NATO projects to address drone threats, with the aim of approving support measures at next month's NATO summit in Ankara.

NATO has also intensified air policing missions, deploying fighter jets to shoot down suspicious drones in Latvia and Estonia. NATO spokesperson Allison Hart highlighted the increase in drone incidents on the eastern flank as a result of the conflict in Ukraine. Details about the timing of the drone purchases remain unclear.
