The NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, had a discussion with the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, after the incident in which a Russian drone hit an apartment building in Galați. Rutte assured Romania of NATO's "absolute solidarity" and expressed compassion for the victims of the incident.
He emphasized that NATO is prepared to defend every inch of allied territory and will continue to strengthen its defense capabilities against threats, including those posed by drones. Rutte condemned Russia's behavior, which targets civilians and civilian infrastructure, and reiterated the need to support Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.
Both parties agreed to continue coordination within NATO to strengthen the defense of the eastern flank, especially through air defense and anti-drone capabilities.
"I just discussed with President Nicușor Dan about the Russian drone that hit an apartment building in Galați. I assured him of NATO's absolute solidarity with Romania and expressed my compassion for those injured in the aftermath of the incident. I stated that NATO is prepared to defend every inch of allied territory. We will continue to strengthen our readiness to deter and defend against any threat, including those posed by drones. 'Russia's war must come to an end, as must Russia's contempt for civilian safety. On our part, we will continue to strengthen our deterrence and defense capacity on our territory and continue to support Ukraine in its efforts to defend against Russian aggression,' said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Friday.
