A 26-year-old citizen of the Republic of Moldova was caught in Dolj County after allegedly fleeing a traffic check and abandoning a car stolen from Bulgaria near a forest in Mehedinți County. The man was identified in a field outside the built-up area of Catane, following a search by police officers.
The case was reported at the end of last week, when the driver of a car with Bulgarian registration plates failed to obey a lawful signal to stop. After fleeing, he allegedly abandoned the car stolen from Bulgaria in a forested area near the town of Strehaia.
Police checked several areas and expanded the search operation across multiple counties. After being located, the man was taken to police headquarters.
Investigators are continuing their inquiries to establish the circumstances in which the car arrived in Romania, the suspect's route, and how he crossed the border. The appropriate legal measures will be taken at the end.
