The Minister of Defense, Radu Mircea, announced that the military equipment package of 8.33 billion euros has been approved by Parliament.

The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, declared on Tuesday that the military equipment package, valued at 8.33 billion euros, was approved by Parliament in a transparent public meeting, with the participation of the press.

This package includes nearly ten projects dedicated to anti-drone solutions, such as radars and anti-drone systems. Miruță emphasized that the plans of the Romanian Army have been adapted to respond to current threats, considering that previously they focused on missiles and aircraft, not on drones.

“Today, the entire list of projects for which the Ministry of National Defense proposed technical specifications passed through Parliament in the most transparent way possible, not in offices with the lights off, not in restaurants, not even in a purely Government setting, but with all interested press, in a public meeting in the Parliament of Romania. The Parliament of Romania approved the form we have today. (...) The entire package of the Ministry of Defense, which passed today through Parliament, is worth 8.33 billion euros. It is very important to say that eight of these projects are anti-drone solutions – radars and anti-drones. (...) The doctrine of the Romanian Army, the defense plans of the Romanian Army were designed against existing aerial targets back then, until about two to three years ago, against missiles, against fighter planes, against helicopters, not against drones. We have eight of the projects approved today with state-of-the-art technical solutions against drones,” said Minister Miruță.

He also mentioned that a contract of 400 million euros for the assault weapon was transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which changed the total amount of the package from 9.6 billion euros to 9.16 billion euros for the Ministry of Defense.

“At the Ministry of Defense, the total amount is no longer 9.6 billion euros, but moving the 400 and something million for the assault weapon to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it remains 9.16, and at the Ministry of Internal Affairs from 2.8, adding the amount associated with the assault weapon from the Ministry of Defense, it reached 3.24 billion,” said Radu Miruță.
