The parliamentary committees gave Mihai Dimian a negative opinion for the position of Minister of Education and Research

The joint education and science committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate issued a negative opinion on Tuesday regarding Mihai Dimian’s nomination for the position of Minister of Education and Research. The decision was made following the hearing of the candidate proposed for the Mureșan Cabinet.

In the vote, 23 committee members voted “for,” 19 “against,” and six abstained. Despite the result, the committees’ opinion is advisory, while the final decision on the appointment is part of the constitutional procedure for forming the Government.

Mihai Dimian’s hearing is taking place as hearings for ministers proposed for the new cabinet continue. Parliamentary committees review the nominations and issue opinions before the proposals proceed to the next stages of the investiture process.

Dimian has been proposed to take over the Education and Research portfolio, but the vote in the relevant committees indicates a lack of majority support for his candidacy at this stage. Hearings for the proposed ministers continue in Parliament.
