Metrorex risks being disconnected from the electricity supply due to a debt of 11,521,602.22 lei to Hidroelectrica, according to a notice issued on August 9.
The interim Minister of Transport, Radu Miruță, has requested the management of Metrorex, through an official letter, explanations and urgent measures to settle this debt. In the document, the minister asks for details about the non-payment of invoices, the situation of outstanding amounts, and the steps taken to pay off the debts. He also emphasizes that a potential interruption of the electricity supply would severely affect the operation of the underground transport in Bucharest.
Additionally, Metrorex does not have an approved budget for the current year, and Radu Miruță has requested a cost reduction program, which has not been developed so far. This precarious financial situation puts additional pressure on the transport company.
