The prosecutors of the Prosecutor's Office next to the Târgu Mureș Court have ordered the placement under judicial control for 60 days of the mayor of a commune in Mureș and an electrician, accused of electricity theft over a period of five years, with an estimated damage of over one million lei.

The mayor allegedly incited the electrician to illegally connect 12 street lighting poles, the changing room of the football field, and the local stage to the electricity network, without a supply contract. Between April 6, 2021, and January 21, 2026, the mayor misappropriated electricity, causing a damage of 136,109 lei to S.C. Distribuție Energie Electrică România. He is also accused of incitement to use clandestine installations, while the electrician is charged with complicity in theft. Additionally, the electrician is being investigated for theft and the use of clandestine installations at his home in Târgu Mureș, where an illegal connection was discovered.

The total damage caused to the electricity company amounts to 1,217,781 lei.
