By July 24, 2025, eight companies in the IT sector in Iasi notified ITM of their intention to lay off nearly 1,500 employees, mostly in the software sector. Amazon Development Center, the largest employer in Iasi, will lay off hundreds of employees, and Hella will close its research center, laying off 66 people. The causes include automation, the introduction of AI and pressures from the European automotive industry, which also affect companies such as Continental and Preh. This reflects a recalibration of the tech ecosystem in Iasi, which faces a more austere reality in 2025.
