A 43-year-old man has been placed in preventive custody in Covasna County, being accused of usury and false declarations. Between September 2022 and October 2025, he allegedly granted loans with exorbitant interest rates, between 50% and 100%, without having authorization. Individuals who did not repay the amounts on time were threatened with forced execution of the properties pledged as collateral.
Additionally, the man has been accused of false declarations within the loan contracts. Another 33-year-old man is being investigated for complicity, suspected of supporting the loan activities and intimidating the debtors. So far, seven victims have been identified, and the investigation continues to uncover all individuals involved.
Recently, searches were conducted at the suspects' homes, where police confiscated large sums of money, electronic devices, and jewelry. The two suspects have been detained, and the court has ordered the preventive arrest of the 43-year-old man. The investigations are coordinated by the case prosecutor to establish the entire criminal activity.
