The Ministry of Investments and European Projects (MIPE) suffered a significant cyber attack on July 16, according to internal sources. The attackers reportedly managed to penetrate the ministry's IT systems, erasing the entire database of projects and beneficiaries of the PNRR, the sources say, however, MIPE denied the information.
So far, it is not known whether the data can be recovered from backups or if it was extracted by the attackers before deletion. The IT department of MIPE has requested assistance from SRI, STS, and DNSC to manage the situation.
Official sources clarified that the PNRR was not the main target of the attack. The National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC) was notified about the incident through the national platform for reporting cyber security incidents (PNRISC). Official reactions are still awaited.
