Ion Iliescu, the 95-year-old former President of Romania, is in poor health due to lung cancer. According to doctors at the Agrippa Ionescu hospital, Iliescu can no longer care for himself and cannot get out of bed without help. Although conscious and cardiac stable, he requires supplemental oxygen and remains in the intensive care unit for ongoing medical care. He was admitted on June 9 with respiratory problems.
