Ioan-Aurel Pop, the president of the Romanian Academy, requested the maintenance of the National Institute of Heritage and the support of the Romanian state, in response to the statements of some dignitaries. He highlighted the importance of the institute, which brings together experts capable of protecting historical monuments. The history of the institution shows that it was established in 1892 and has undergone closures and restorations over time, including during the communist period, when the destruction of heritage was significant.
After 1990, the institute was restored and evolved into the National Institute of Heritage, playing a crucial role in the research and conservation of national heritage. Pop emphasized that the losses suffered by the national heritage following the suppression of the institution are irreparable.
