ING Bank Romania was fined 405.91 million lei by the Competition Council following an investigation into the manipulation of the ROBOR index. The Dutch bank rejects the conclusions of the investigation, stating that they are based on a misunderstanding of the interbank market. ING Bank emphasizes that it has complied with all legal regulations and that its activities have been subject to continuous audits that did not reveal any deficiencies.

The Competition Council has fined a total of 10 banks with fines of 3.73 billion lei for violating competition rules, accusing them of coordinating behavior in setting ROBOR. Other banks, such as Banca Transilvania and BRD, have announced that they will also contest the Council's decisions, claiming that they acted in accordance with the legislation. CEC Bank has rejected the manipulation allegations and will contest the fine received, stating that sanctions must be based on concrete evidence.
