The general mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, stated that in the next two years, Bucharest will require infrastructure works that will generate discomfort, but are essential for traffic fluidity and for civilized public transport. Ciucu emphasized the importance of these works, mentioning that the city has not benefited from such a pace of works for a long time. He appealed to Bucharest residents to understand that, although there will be two difficult years, the results will improve the quality of life and public services.

The works include the rehabilitation of tram tracks, which have not been changed for 50 years, and the modernization of underground utilities, some of which are over 100 years old. The City Hall announced that this year three batches of works will be completed for the rehabilitation of 50 kilometers of track, with a total investment value of 7.147 billion lei, of which 1.678 billion lei are non-reimbursable funds. The deadline for completing the works is December 31, 2029.
