Recent measurements show an increase in pollution in Romania, with 23 affected congested areas in 2025, compared to 18 last year.

The new municipalities included on the list are Sighetu Marmației, Târgu Jiu, Dej, Miercurea Ciuc, and the commune of Bragadiru.

Following Order No. 2.761, administrative-territorial units must develop integrated air quality plans, according to the methodology approved by Government Decision no. 257/2015.

These plans will identify emission sources and will include quantifiable measures to meet the limit values for pollutants.

Air quality assessment is based on data obtained from monitoring stations, and there are already plans in place to improve air quality for localities such as Ploiești, Deva, and Suceava.
