The National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) has launched an investigation following the detection of an illegal transport of 92 lambs in Alba County, after a control carried out by police on August 1. The driver of the van could not present the mandatory veterinary documents nor any papers to prove the legal origin and health status of the animals.

DSVSA Alba inspectors were called to assess the veterinary health risk; however, by the time they arrived, only 51 animals from the initial group were still present. These were slaughtered and disposed of according to procedures, while the other 41 lambs have disappeared, and the police are trying to locate them and establish their origin.

ANSVSA warns that the disappearance of the animals represents a "major epidemiological risk," as the lack of traceability can facilitate the emergence of disease outbreaks, including Small Ruminant Plague. The institution announces that it will intensify road filters and controls carried out together with the police to combat the illegal transport of animals and protect the biosecurity of the livestock sector.
