The authorities in Bihor discovered an illegal reptile breeding operation in an apartment in the city of Ștei, where they found both snakes and amphibians as well as tarantulas.

Following the inspection carried out, the commissioners of the Environmental Guard, together with the police, identified 8 snakes, 2 Mangshan pit vipers, 3 Boa snakes, one python, one monitor lizard, one caiman, one red-legged amphibian, and 10 tarantulas in a single room of approximately 12 square meters.

Many of these species are protected by international CITES legislation and were acquired illegally. The owner risks fines of up to 30,000 lei for violating environmental laws and animal protection. The documents have been forwarded to DSVSA Bihor, and safety measures have been imposed to prevent the escape of the animals.
