The illegal deforestation in the Băile Felix forest has been investigated by the Forest Guard, following reports that revealed abusive logging. A small company, with only two employees, was responsible for the cutting down of hundreds of trees, 14 of which were not marked and should not have been cut. The logging was initiated under the pretext that the trees were dangerous, but inspections showed that many of them were healthy.
Representatives of the company claim that the logging was a mistake, but contradictory information from the authorities suggests poor management of the situation. The Forest Guard announced that it will file a criminal case and suspend the works, and the case illustrates the broader issues of illegal deforestation in Romania. The Băile Felix forest, an important tourist destination, requires proper management to protect natural resources.
