The Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile (IICCMER) has asked the Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, to publicly apologize to all those who suffered during the communist regime, after he made controversial statements about Nicolae Ceaușescu. In an interview with Digi24, Miruță avoided a clear answer to the question of whether Ceaușescu was a patriot, mentioning both positive and negative aspects, which sparked criticism. IICCMER emphasized that such statements contribute to a dangerous communist nostalgia and risk relativizing the horrors of the dictatorial regime. The Institute has requested that, in the name of the memory of the victims of communism, Miruță should publicly apologize, including to Romanians who uphold the values of democracy.
