He welcomed the adoption of the 17th sanctions package and reaffirmed his support for Ukraine's and Moldova's accession to the EU. He also expressed concern about the escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip and underlined the importance of respect for international humanitarian law. On Syria, he called for a peaceful and inclusive political transition.
